社会正义 Definitions

While the list of 社会 justice definitions is not exhaustive and does not present the only way to understand 社会 justice frameworks, it serves as a guide to our work.

  • 多样性: Having a variety of racial, 性, 性别, class, 宗教, 少数民族, 健全人, and other 社会 identities represented in a space, 社区, 机构, 或社会. Derived from Adams, M et al. (2016). Teaching for 多样性 and 社会正义. New York: Routledge. P. 1
  • 股本: “股权” is often conflated with the term “Equality” (meaning sameness). 事实上, true equity implies that an individual may need to experience or receive something different (not equal) in order to maintain fairness and access. Derived from Morton, B. and Fasching-Varner, K. (2015). “股权.” Encyclopedia of 多样性 and 社会正义. 卷. 1. (Ed. S. 汤普森). 兰哈姆,医学博士:罗曼 & 李特佛尔德. p. 303-4.
  • 包容:主动, 有意的, and ongoing engagement with diversity—in the curriculum, in the co-curriculum, and in communities (intellectual, 社会, 文化, geographical) with which individuals might connect—in ways that increase awareness, 内容知识, cognitive sophistication, and empathic understanding of the complex ways individuals interact within systems and 机构s. Derived from the Association of American Colleges & 大学
  • 社会正义: Both a process and a goal. The goal of 社会 justice is full and equal participation of all groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs. Social justice includes a vision of society in which the distribution of resources is equitable and all members are psychologically and physically safe and secure.” Derived from Bell, L. (2013). Theoretical foundations. 在米. 亚当斯,W.J. Blumenfeld C. 卡斯塔涅达,H.W. 哈克曼,M.L. 切赫, & X. 祖尼加. (Eds.), Readings for diversity and 社会 justice. New York: Routledge.

All-Gender Bathrooms

Regardless of an individual’s identity, these restrooms provide safety, privacy and dignity while on campus. Gender-neutral restrooms are open to all; including trans性别 individuals, 性别 non-conforming individuals, those who are caregivers to individuals of a different 性别 and individuals who have felt uncomfortable or unsafe while in a 性别ed restroom.

我们的学生, staff and faculty are at their best when they are comfortable in their place of learning, 工作或教学, and these restrooms assist in this practice.
